Coming of Age/ TransIstanbul.org

Coming of Age/ TransIstanbul is an ongoing collaborative art project by Arzu Arda Kosar and Gul Cagin and a part of the Istanbul 2010 European Cultural Capital events. It focuses on Istanbul’s youth cultures and subcultures and their relationship to their environments.

The project was launched in Istanbul in 2009 with site specific temporary street installations, happenings and street art. In April 2010 the Coming of Age team has conducted collage workshops with local youth in Armutlu, an infamous ghetto of Istanbul, as well as Kadirga Art Center, at the heart of the conservative part of the old city. the workshops asked the participants to recreate their ideal city based on their needs, wants, aspirations, fantasies and biases.
